The Resilience Doughnut is a model for building resilience that considers both the internal qualities of a resilient person as well as the factors in the person’s environment which support and interact with those internal qualities.
The model is based on a wide body of research (both Australian and international) examining the factors common to children and young people who have shown resilience in the face of adversity.
The Resilience Doughnut is a simple and practical tool which can be used to support the development of resilience in children and adolescents. We have taught and trained many parents, teachers and practitioners around Australia and overseas. The Resilience Doughnut can also be used directly with children and adolescents in a therapeutic setting, or taught in a workshop format to school students.
The Resilience Doughnut also sheds light on how adults develop the skills for coping with adversity through their lifetime and offers insights for nurturing both personal and professional resilience.
